What is the best bet for a surf trip in late September?
I live in San Diego and want to take a surf trip for about 9 days. I don’t want to spend too much on airfare ($600-$700) which pretty much rules out Bali right now. I was thinking Costa (Tamarindo) but quickly reconsidered due to rainy season. Now I am considering Cabo San Lucas, but the waves don’t look that sick. Anyway a surf trip is always a gamble, but I would like to mitigate the risk of a getting burned (meager swell and bad conditions). Of course you can’t predict the swell, but I would appreciate any suggestions based on personal experience. Thanks and cheers!

Are Watercooled surfboards any good?
I’ve put away some savings for my first board. Wanted to buy the used board I was learning on but guy wouldn’t sell. I saw a Watercooled fun board today. 6’6″ x 21 x 2 5/8, 3 fin fish.
I’m still a novice surfed everyday in Bali for 2 months, now I’m in Hong Kong, I’ve never surfed anything smaller than 6’10″. but this is the same width and about same thickness of the board I learned on and the guy said it should be fine. The fact it’s shorter makes me feel better about it being easier to travel with and a board that I can progress on for years, it’s nose is quite wide and has fishtail so should be too much harder to catch a wave, right?
Anyone used Watercooled boards, they worth buying?
Do you think it’s suitable for me?
Poll: What Is Your Dream Vacation?
Here’s mine. Its Bali. I try and get there once a year and would love to live there. Then again I wouldn’t as it would take away the mystique of it..
If you ever go surfing there, you’re guaranteed to feel your mind, body and soul just fall into place.

want to learn how to surf!?
so ive decided after watching endless surf videos on youtube that i want to learn how to surf! ive had about 3 lessons before, my dad is a keen surfer and has been trying to get me into it since i was about 7. I can stand up on a board and im used to the ocean (done lots of body boarding), but i’ve never really tried very hard because i’ve never really been that bothered, until now anyway. So i just want to know all the basics on surfing really, what sort of board is best to get to learn on, etc. in the past ive learn on my dads long board, he’s over 6ft, and i’m 5ft 1, so its always been very daunting, and ive had many wipeouts on it (!) which is probably why ive been scared of surfing before.
also, there is the problem i live in london so i get very little practice. however owning a holiday home in devon, and going to surf spots due to my dad every summer (hossegor, bali) i do get the oppertunities. im just wandering if it will matter that i wont be able to practice for a few months at a time?
lastly (sorry this question is pretty long!) what excercises are best to prepare you for surfing?
thankyou, answers would be much appreciated!
What can I do for my next adventure?
Hi
I am looking for ideas of another adventure/challenge. I have climbed the four peaks of the UK, bagged the Munro’s, climbed Kilimanjaro, canoed around the IOW, canoed coast to coast of Scotland, cycled from london to brighton, cycled london to paris, sailed around the Med, ran from london to hayling island, ran from exmoor to dartmoor, ran from exeter to poole, swam poole harbour, surfed newquay, bali, hossegor, and baritz.
Anyone got any good ideas of what I can do next?
is summer surf in siargao, Philippines, good?
heya,
i was thinking of going to cloud 9 this summer (mid july to mid september) to surf. The only problem is i get some mixed information. Magicseeweed.com says that the swell isn’t that good for surfing during the summer, at least not until september, whilst other sites say its good all year round. I know that magicseaweed is often wrong so i’m not sure which to believe.
Cheers!
(btw if some of you talk about going to bali, i’ve already been and i wanna try new places)
