I live in San Diego and want to take a surf trip for about 9 days. I don’t want to spend too much on airfare ($600-$700) which pretty much rules out Bali right now. I was thinking Costa (Tamarindo) but quickly reconsidered due to rainy season. Now I am considering Cabo San Lucas, but the waves don’t look that sick. Anyway a surf trip is always a gamble, but I would like to mitigate the risk of a getting burned (meager swell and bad conditions). Of course you can’t predict the swell, but I would appreciate any suggestions based on personal experience. Thanks and cheers!

umm i guessing your from the US im from the UK but i went with some buddies down to South Africa nice uncrowded beaches, around late sept early oct and durban is like that side of the worlds friggen mecca of surfing
depends how serious you are at surfing though, but theres great surf and other $hit to do when it’s flat, not that it’s ever flat ummm great occasional sets and tubes happen pretty often
.durban and cape town

If you need a surf trip for September and you are in San Diego, Mexico is the way to go. The two best options are to either drive down the Baja coast, camping along the way and picking up epic south swell for as long as you can possibly get off work/school, or you can spend some money on a flight down to the mainland. There are a lot of fun and empty breaks as you get further south in Mexico, but you’re going to have to look elsewhere for that kind of information. After all, if we announced it on Yahoo Answers, they wouldn’t be as empty or fun anymore.
